ARE YOU STRUGGLING WITH DISTRACTIONS?
June 02, 2026
Bryant Wright, Founder

“Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.’” She kept this up for many days. Finally, Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ, I command you to come out of her!” At that moment, the spirit left her.”

Acts 16:16-19

One of the greatest tools the devil uses when it comes to Christians sharing the Gospel is that of distraction.

What is the Gospel?

That Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead. It’s the greatest news anyone will ever hear, as it’s the key to salvation from sin and death and the beginning of an eternal relationship with God. The devil will do just about anything to keep that message from being heard.

Think about it: Anyone who’s ever shared the Gospel with a non-believer can attest to how the devil will use any kind of distraction to get that conversation sidetracked. It’s uncanny how often right in the middle of the conversation, a phone will ring, or someone will walk into the room, or a baby will start crying – distractions. Even personal times of prayer and Bible study aren’t immune to these attacks. Distractions like checking our phones, emails, or social media are the greatest tools the enemy uses to keep us from sharing the Gospel and walking with God.

Paul and Silas experienced this early on in their ministry. While traveling and preaching in Philippi, the Macedonia region of Greece, a young fortune teller began to follow them around and cry out, “These men are servants of the Most High God!” Now, you might think Paul and Silas would be happy with this free publicity, but after a while, they became frustrated. Rather than drawing people to listen, this young woman became a distraction that kept the people from hearing the Gospel.

So, what did they do? Paul knew that divination and sorcery come from occult practices, and so he commanded the spirit possessing her to leave in the name of Jesus Christ – and it did. Immediately, she was healed.

Distractions are everywhere, especially when we strive to walk with or talk about God. Are you struggling with distractions when it comes to spending time with God or sharing your faith?

Ask God for an opportunity this week to share the hope of the Gospel with someone in your life, and to help you stay focused on His will as you battle distractions in your life.

Running to God in Prayer
Bible in a Year :
From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.
Jonah 2:1

share
Today's Scripture & Insight :
Jonah 2:1-10
One moment Adrián Simancas was kayaking in the Strait of Magellan in Chile with his father. The next, the twenty-four-year-old was engulfed in the mouth of a humpback whale. “I thought I was dead,” Adrián told a news outlet. After a few seconds, the whale released Adrián into the frigid waters. His life vest caused him to float to the water’s surface, and his father helped him to safety.
The Old Testament prophet Jonah also had an encounter with a large sea creature. Jonah refused to follow God’s directive to preach a message of repentance to the Israelites’ enemies, the Ninevites, so he boarded a ship in the opposite direction of Nineveh. When the ship got caught in a storm, Jonah convinced the crew to throw him overboard (Jonah 1:11-12, 15). “Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights” (v. 17). Jonah went from fleeing from God to crying out to Him: “From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God” (2:1).
God heard Jonah and rescued him (v. 10). Then Jonah preached to the Ninevites, and they repented (3:8-10).
If God could hear Jonah’s plea from inside a big fish, He can hear us and rescue us from wherever we are. Instead of running from God, let’s run to Him in prayer, knowing that He will answer us when we cry out to Him.

Reflect & Pray
Why do you sometimes run from God? How can you run to Him today?
Dear God, thank You for the rescue You alone provide.

Our Future with Christ
Bible in a Year :
The old order of things has passed away.
Revelation 21:4

share
Today's Scripture & Insight :
Revelation 21:1-5
Visiting Switzerland had been my dad’s lifelong dream. After his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia, my mom decided to go with him while he was still physically able. “One day, with the snow blowing around us on Mount Titlis,” she said, “I saw the profound joy in your father’s face. It was the joy of a dream come true.” Later, however, my mom’s tears flowed when my dad asked, “Where are we again?”
My dad may have forgotten he was in Switzerland, but “the visit was worth it,” my mom said. “At least for one moment, he knew, and he was happy.”
God reassures us of a time when joy will never be taken away from us again. Because of our hope in Jesus, we can look forward to “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1), where we’ll be free from sin and death (Romans 5:12). In this perfect world, God will make “everything new” (Revelation 21:5). “ ‘He will wipe every tear from [our] eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (v. 4). Whatever suffering we experience now is temporary. God promises that one day “the former things will not be remembered” (Isaiah 65:17). They will forever be no more.
I know that one day, when we’re with God (Revelation 21:3), I’ll see profound joy on Daddy’s face. This time, it will stay.

Reflect & Pray
How does the hope of your future dwelling place give you hope now? What do you look forward to seeing there?
Dear Jesus, I praise You. One day, You’ll make all things new.

Be Prepared to Share
Bible in a Year :
Be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
1 Peter 3:15

share
Today's Scripture & Insight :
1 Peter 3:13-17
The teenager stood her ground. While her high school group was visiting a home for people in rehab from addictions, Claire engaged in conversation with a twentysomething man who towered over her in size. They talked about faith.
Claire clearly presented the gospel of Jesus. He countered with his spiritual views, which were very different. Back and forth they went in a friendly give-and-take way. Finally, the young man looked at Claire and said, “You got me. I can’t argue with what you’re saying.”
Though he didn’t put his faith in Jesus, a seed had been planted. And while Claire would have loved for the young man to have received Christ, her disappointment was balanced by the reality that she’d done what God had called her to do that day: “Be prepared to give an answer” (1 Peter 3:15). She had lovingly shared God’s plan of salvation.
Claire wasn’t ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16). She was prepared to “give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15). And she knew how to let her “conversation be . . . full of grace” so she would “know how to answer” (Colossians 4:6) the young man in the right spirit.
What a privilege God gives us to make Christ known to others! Let’s be ready to share with others as He provides what we need.
By: Dave Branon

Reflect & Pray
How can you prepare for an opportunity to share your faith? Who do you know who needs to hear the gospel?
Dear God, please encourage my heart and open my mouth so I can “give an answer” to others who need You.
Learn how to effectively share your witness.

CASTING A POSITIVE SHADOW
June 10, 2026
Taken from a sermon by Bryant Wright, Founder

Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.”
Acts 5:14-15

When we read Acts 5:14-15, we are reminded of Peter’s profound influence on the early church.

Multitudes were added to their number, for wherever Peter went, his life cast a long shadow for good – for Jesus.

Just like Peter, we all have influence over others, whether it’s in our families, workplaces, or communities. The question is, what kind of influence are we having? Are we building others up or tearing them down? Do we encourage or discourage? Are we pointing them to Jesus or leading them away?

It’s easy to underestimate our impact on those around us. Like a shadow, our influence goes with us wherever we go, and it always falls on others, never ourselves, whether we realize it or not. Just as my grandfather’s shadow fell over my dad and my father’s shadow fell over me, our lives have a ripple effect that extends far beyond ourselves.

But here’s the good news: no matter what kind of shadow we’ve cast in the past, it’s never too late to cast a shadow for good. What could be worse than Peter denying Christ three times? Yet he was transformed after he encountered Jesus after His resurrection through having his “Come to Jesus” talk by the sea of Galilee (John 21:15-25). We, too, can experience this forgiveness and redemption.

Jesus offers us a new beginning, a chance to cast a positive shadow that points others to Him.

So, the question is: What kind of shadow do you cast? For good or for evil? To build up or tear down? For Jesus or self? What kind of shadow do you cast?

Let’s be encouraged to embrace God’s forgiveness and redemption in our lives, allowing His grace to transform us from the inside out so we can live as bold and courageous followers of Jesus, casting a positive shadow wherever we go.

What kind of shadow do you cast?
