How to: convert your stock rear mags into disk brake

hi guys im a newbie here,just reading the forum with ur conversation im starting to learn to modifiy my beloved sniper...i really like the modifications that traxxas displays to us.is it really worth it if u convert for rear disc break..someone told me that it is not that strong to support the back wheel..is it true..as of now how much do you tink will cost me and where to go for conversion

WELCOME TO YAMAHAT135 Sir...In my opinion its really worth it to have a rear disk conversion..its very cool. Its a head turner (somehow he he). About the " strong " thing, I think its depends on how reliable the person who converted it. Of course if your the one who converted it, you will make sure that its very strong and durable coz you are the one who will be using it right? The price??? its ranging from 5k to 6k. in my case i spend around 2.5k to 3k i think coz its only DIY he he...hope i was able to answer your question in behalf of all forumers here..RIDE SAFE

Just updating, I have some questions to those who did this conversion also. My rear tire seems like always on semi brake, its not rotation freely. I've already tried removing the caliper from the disk thinking the alignment of the bracket was not good. But still without the caliper in place the rear wheel wont rotate freely. Its like on a "semi brake mode" always.

Has anyone encountered these also? What solutions did you make?

Try to check spacers bro., specially the supposed 12BC04 bearing. The inner part of that bearing where the axle is attached, should rest firmly on the spacers once you tighten the nut of the rear axle. Just my thought...

Two possible/probable reasons for your woes:

1) Incorrect spacers and brackets used in the conversion of your rear disc brake causing....
2) Improper alignment of the wheel itself.

This has to be corrected cause if not, your brake calipher will sway in the wrong direction upon brake application causing it to drag.

pero kung gusto mo magpadiskbrake..pm mo si sir wingman..at may mga benta din na mga mags yan...

wow!! very nice,very usefull to those who wants to convert the rear brake into disc brake system with very minimal costs..to those who have not enough budyet for disc convertion like me lets do this!!..thanks sir traxx.

does the kawasaki hd3 hub fits the rb 8 spoke mags? or rb 8 spoke mags has the same size with the stock mags of our sniper.. i mean the circumference where we put the drum break?

sir traxx is it possible to avoid drilling out our mags and instead connect it (the HD3 sprocket hub and mags) using full welding? thanks :wink: :wink:

Notic:

If it's not posted yet. This mod dose not work with stock swing arm with the use of the HD3 hub.

I tried a test fit lastnight for my disk setup, it is too big for the stock swingarm.


Arkrye, yes you can weld it to the rim.

it's not realy weld, it's settleen, done at the muffler shop. the HD3 hub is alloy, and the brake liner is different I think. I was told it's not compatable for welding, as it different from settleen.

it may also depend of your rim. I have Org Yamaha rims, not the Enkie.
