How to: SQUISHBAND your engine

shaving 1mm off the stock 54mm cylinder top would raise the compression ratio from 10.9:1 to 12.9:1. shaving 0.5mm will raise the compression ratio from 10.9:1 to 11.8:1.

@dms5 : yeah thanks for reminding.. that's if u use the standard V=phi x (r)^2 x H / 1000 but.. if u want to use diameter.. its V= phi x (1/2D) ^ 2 x H / 1000 divided by 4000 if u don't divide the D first by 2... remember (1/2) ^ 2 * 1/1000... it's a basic math bro..

Example :

for vixion block :

Diameter formula

V= 3,1416 x (57 mm) ^ 2 x 58,7 mm = 599154,32808 / 4000 = 149,78858202 cc

Radius formula

r = 1/2 D = 1/2 x 57 mm = 28,5 mm

so..

V=3,1416 x (28,5 mm) ^ 2 x 58,7 mm = 149788,58202 / 1000 = 149,78858202 cc

tell me.. isn't it the same result ?
Here's a simple formula i found on the web for computing displacement or cylinder volume(cc):
bore(mm) x bore(mm) x 0.0007854 x stroke(mm)
ex. vixion is 57 x 57 x 0.0007854 x 58.7 = 149.78858202 cc

dudes, u guys sure the term "squishband" is correct here ?

wat i see is jus lathe'ing the block to increase the comp ratio
i did this so many times myself

the t135 head n piston dun reli look like it has a proper squishband shape to me. jus makes me wonder
though it did alter the squishband by doing wat u did as i know, just mebi not intentionally

just in case, why is a squishband clearance is important in the combustion chamber ?

Correct me if im wrong bro haen, vixion piston has a concave top right? does this mean we lowered the compression ratio?

any one here tried shaving off 1mm of vixion block? bro haen and traxx can you guys give some advice. TIA

im using stage 2 cam from haen

bro yes yamaha vixion kit has lower compression ratio 10.4
while t135 = 10.9

i havent tried shaving vixion block
but most users here remove the bottom gasket to increase compression.

maybe that explains why my bikes performance is best in mid, average in high and poor in low rpm range.

I guest ill wait for somebody to try it first, hehehehe

Thanks mate! \m/

@ traxx = squishband on my stock t135 block i want to do it 1mm shave. on the gasket at the bottom do i have to use the base gasket or not? and how about the valve clearance? so that the piston will not collide to the valve.. and how about the timing chain is there will be an adjustment?

just 1mm on a stock piston and cam set-up, u dun need to worry much
The clearance is still plenty
timing chain wise just need a tiny bit tightening, though this is automatically done when u fit back ur engine together

Fit back a new base gasket, 1mm shave is a lot
too high comp ratio is for people who dun reli care about the cost of rebuilding engines again n again, if u r den go ahead :lol:

i have a kit Malossi 180 cc with a hight cam and valve TK .
i controled the squish and it is 0.28 mm .

You think a can reduce it or it is dangerous ?

I tried this to bike, and it work wonders to my bike, I sahved 1 mm fro my stock block, just to it as what traxx indicated , but I strongly suggest that you port the valve pocket a littlte deeper to avoid complications,

Result more power, added acceleration, 4th gear is more aggressive.

I also tried this to my yoshi block but unfortunately it didnt end so well, at the beginning it was smooth as a stock no noise at all, I must probably overrev it, after 1 reach 80 kph, i heard a knocking coming from the head, sure enough after we removed the 60mm block, there some grooves inside th cylinder wall. now I am looking for a 61 mm piston kit, but so far so good, my stock block is still running.

i am bit interested with this mod to try it into my vixion kit but i experienced knocking sound of the intake valve at my piston because im using raider valve and v150 high lift cams...because of my valves bigger diameter (22) and greater cam load the valves kisses the piston thus hearing knocking sound from the engine luckily no damage or scratch at the piston nor block was made... so we counter the problem by coupling the valve gasket using the stock gasket of the 135 placing it on top of the vixion valve gasket...if i push the idea thru how much mm shaving (which is safe) can the vixion piston can to accommodate the porting of the valves if i squishband the vixion block?
please post your know hows on this... TIA!

I know there are gasket kits that are sold for cars that accomplish the same thing, although they're not the most popular route for modders. My questions is, why not purchase higher compression pistons? Are they not available?
