Lc5s Stock Pipe Repaint

Hi brothers in wheels. Been a while now.
I just want to ask if any of you have tried to repaint your stock pipe? I tried to DIY mine because the elbow got rusty overtime for i didn't use it for almost 2 years (i had a NOB1 muffler on my bike) and i just stored it away without even cleaning it after i removed it from my MX. I used BOSNY High Temp heat resistant up to 1200F, and used 2 cans of flat black. Problem is, i think the paint got "toasted" over time. I guess it's only been a month or almost two now, and i noticed that the paint got flaky and it comes off easily, like literally now you can just rub it off, especially the ones in the elbow section near the engine where surely it is the hottest part of the exhaust while you are riding. What do you think may the problem be, good sirs? :help:

BTW here is my procedure when I did it:

1. Sanding, especially the rusty part (wet and dry)
2. Wiping it with dry cloth and drying it under the sun for about 1 hour+
3. Sprayed on it while it's still hot from the sun
4. 1st coating then after 30 minutes 2nd coating then repeat procedure for coating until cans ran out of paint.
5. Reinstalled it the next day (i think i left it hanging to dry for about 8-10 hours before reinstalling it)

Is it the brand of the paint? Is it because of the paint specs? Is it because i rushed the procedure a bit? Enlighten me. Been thinking about re-doing it sometime now, and i want to do it right this time, i guess. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Good day brother.. i think its better to use 1800F or higher if available then dont use anymore the flat black paint coz its not a high temp paint. your procedure is ok.

You may want to add a "primer" before the actual paint is applied. Seems your process is good as stated, and increasing the paint temp couldn't hurt.

This site stays amazing, because people still actually reply. Thanks brothers. :D

Your answers prompted me to conduct a "proper" research, which i haven't done before. Thus, the failure. :p And by doing so, i learned the following things:

1. There is what you call a "curing" process, done to achieve the best possible result. It is done after the paint is dried completely. I skipped this step before, because i was ignorant about it.
2. There is actually a FIREPROOF paint (which i've never heard/imagined before, i only knew of a hi-temp class) and it's called VHT. It can supposedly stand up to 2000F of heat (idk how hot that is lol) but what's cool about this brand is that you have more options on color, and options for what paint to use depending on what part you are going to paint, too. :) You can check it out here http://www.vhtpaint.com/ :coffee:

Now the only problem is WHERE DO THEY SELL THESE THINGS?? Anyway, i hope this thread will help fellow riders on this page, too. If i get the chance to do this immediately, i'll post some updates. KUDOS!
