Thicker Gaskets, Side Effects?

I'm running a 62.25mm block, I had a problem with coolant leaking into the bore a few months back (oil seal from the water pump), we had fixed this, the valves had melted also and the piston rings got rusted and needed replacement, all this had been done a few weeks back. Now the bike is electric start only (R15), I am running without a starter (push start only) whilst I await delivery of a new camshaft with decompression slot, currently running without decomp.

When the engine was reassembled, we had problem with the cut gasket leaking, we finally put a stock gasket for the 57mm bore, seemed ok. We also but a thicker base gasket (1mm) to relieve some compression, earlier I had 2 stock gaskets which equates to .6mm. Now when I push start, it takes a little effort, more than with the 2 stock gaskets for the bike to turn over.

Earlier I went for a ride for around 1 hour, seemed ok, I came home for around an hour then went to start the bike again, after 15 mins of push starting I gave up.

Now I feel the timing may be off, I feel the valve clearance is too tight, it was fine with the 2 stock gaskets.

So my question is, what are the effects of using thicker gaskets? and what is the remedy?

Anyone?

Cheers,

Stefan
