just like sir traxxas said... turning it clockwise means u push the needle-in in other words u close the a/c screw= meaning u making it leaner!... and if u turn it counter-clockwise you are releasing the fuel ang mixturing it with air... meaning you making it richer!..

clockwise = LEAN
counter clockwise = RICH

QUESTION NINE: ARE THEY ADJUSTED THE SAME WAY?

No. An air screw meters air before it reaches the pilot jet. Turning an air screw in restricts the air flow and richens the mixture (turning it out leans the mixture by letting more air in). Conversely, a fuel mixture screw meters gas after it has been mixed with air, thus it works the opposite of an air screw. Turning the fuel screw out lets more fuel into the engine and creates a richer mixture. Turning the fuel screw in limits the flow of gasoline and leans the jetting.
Turning an air screw in = clockwise
Turning it out = counter-clockwise

im using open pipe.. sir wat would be the a/f setting? increase air (leaner)from the factory setting which is 1 1/2.. or increase gas(richer)??

try 1 5/8 - 2 1/4 ccw or out then check spark plug color.. try adjusting until you arrive at the recommended color..

the turn adjustment of air fuel mixture is depend to the main jet and pilot jet you used
if you feel the accelleration is good,,,the idle is good,,,the spark plug burn is good,,,then its all done

the more turns you have (counter clockwise) means richer mix.
less turns (clockwise) means lean.

do not go LESS THAN 1-5/8 turns as it will give lean (lack of fuel) which will make your sparkplug hotter.



as rooster said, LEFT side is the Pilot Air screw also called Air Fuel screw

the right side is the IDLE SPEED screw




i think its ok for the outside metal to be black.
the important to look is the Center node or the tip of the spark plug.






Turn your Pilot air screw clockwise until it stops.
mark it, then turn it counter clockwise to the number of turns i mentioned in my previous posts.

after you set the pilot air screw, adjust the idle to something you think is ok.

a good way to know is if the headlight stops blinking then its good.

try to adjust Air Fuel setting

try from 1-5/8 turns then increase (see below)
after adjusting the turns, better use it for a day
so that the adjustment you made will be properly set and you will
really feel the difference. and have it run to the max at least once...


1st day:
* 1-5/8 turns

2nd day:
* 2 turns

3rd day:
* 2-1/8 turns

4th day:
* 2-1/4 turns

then based from those which do you think is best...
just make sure DONT GO BELOW 1-5/8 turns becuase
your bike will run leaner (lack of fuel)
as what yamaha mechanic says.. more is better than less.

i am now currently set 2-1/8 turns and looks good too.
the settings will really depends on your place (elevation)

just be patient... i have fully tuned my A/F mixture for a month, adjusting which i think is best
so just be patient

Sir u mean that the lesser the turn means more lean mixture?my sp color seems to be lean black on the outside a white on the inside tip.So if i increase the turn will make it rich??correct me if in wrong?my setting now is 2turn..so would i set it to 2 1/8?

If you turn your A/F screw nearly LOOSING it (Counter-Clockwise), it will become LEAN (More Air, Less Fuel)

Recommended A/F setting (standard):
1-1/2 turn (min) from fully close up to 2-1/2 turn (max). Your A/F setting should be within this range.

Note:
If 1-1/2 turn and below and your SP reading is LEAN, you should INCREASE PJ size
If 2-1/2 turn and above and your SP reading is still RICH, you should DECREASE PJ size
**MJ setting can be seen on WOT SP reading (Wide open throttle only)""

I think yes sir.. this is the factory default ranges regardless of brand.. According to my research..

better mileage due to good correct Air Fuel mixture.

almost the same or probably better

BEFORE:
44.6km/liter at 80-90kph speed on 3rd/4th gear

AFTER:
40.20 km per liter at 90-100kph speed on 3rd gear of 4th gear.


Better air fuel mixture is the key here...




i would advise to replace your air filter to a new one.
original yamaha air filter costs only about USD$6
a dirty air filter will change the air fuel mixture of your bike
due to limited air intake due to the dusts.

cleaning your air filter using High pressure air wont get rid
of the dirty elements.

BTW, regarding the video i havent been able to do the video today.
was busy with the other mods i made to my bike

from what i understand if u turn the screw clockwise it will become leaner because more air from the butterfly valve and otherwise. so u need to find the right turn by using standard 1 5/8 turn out as baseline and try 1/2 turn out an 1/2 turn in. hear the engine sound is it revving more if yes then stop. rev the throttle and hear for bogging sound or stalling. if good respons than u are ready to ride. just from my experience. hehe..

smx has fuel screw located at the top right of our carb ..while the a/f screw is at the bottom left side of the carb./factory setting is 2,5 turn out

this optimum setup should result to lean mixture. Way above factory reco but im surprised after trying this out my plug reading looks good and my bike performance improved. Acceleration. Topspeed and gas consumption. Thanks ts for sharing
