Valve Adjustment Sound?

bandido

Guys is it normal that tiktiktik sound occurs after tuning my valve clearance?
The mechanic from yamaha malabon did the whole tuning process and i told him twice to use the 10/15 measurement but now i did hear the valve claps against the rocker arms. The whole cyl head was quite before i went to the stated above 3s shop. Anyone got suggestions?

@ianghol currently using 6/9 but start making unnoticable backfire and if you get lucky engine braking you'll get one LOUD backfire. I also disconnected AIS and clean the sparkplug and yet still got rough idling w/ a few unnoticable backfires.

did you modify your bike already or your still running stock bike with an open pipe?..try change your a/f screw into 1 and half turn if you just installed open pipe..

Already did that sir @ianghol im still in default settings when it comes to valve clearance but now its kinda hard to achieve the factory settings which is 10-14 in & 16-20 out. Also tried 10-15 way too noisy for a stock engine.

try 6/6 and try clean and adjust ur af screw until the back fire is gone..every diffrent setting in valve clearance has a diffrent af screw settings..:)

@ianghol yes you're right. I already noticed that too. and sometimes even the correct jettings will fail if you're valve clearance is adjusted too rich or too lean.
@jangbest yepp sometimes 3s sucks. dunno where do they get those mechanics that didn't even know how and what are
the basic principles of the engine. ;)

based on my experience when going to a shop. i always check the accomplishment/rewards/seminar's the mechanic has.. i check the wall if there is a plaque and the bearer of this plaque is the mechanic itself.

@ESOJ de GUZMAN JR yepp i'll keep this in mind the next time... I think we should be at least know what are or if there is any accomplishment award or something like this for us to believe that he is really a legit or maybe a suggested "thumbs up" employee/mechanic.

yeah sir.. so before askin for tune-ups or some check up. some question i like to ask from the mechanic while checking the wall. hahaha.

i just tune up my mc this morning and adjust my clearane to 7/8 is it ok? here in malabon along longos
do you mean .07 / 0.8 ? that is too tight dude
normally it's 0.10 / 0.16

if the engine gets hot the valves length will increase
if the intake valve have no clearance, it will not seated properly

rarely causing backfire through the intake when you starting the mc

Just fixed my problem hard starting engine

Its just my bike is too old and valve clearance is not recommended anymore i used 8in 10ex i found if so noisy and so hard to start in the morning.
Also has a massive vibration during hi rev.

Before i use 10in and 15ex.

I think this valve clearance is recommended for newly installed cams, valves, and rocker arms since all this are deteriorating during long run of the bike.

how about using vxion kit with valve spring & lighten valves, rcdi & pipe? what do u recommend valve clearance?

Maybe they get those mechanics in lazada. They should try ebay.

i have a same issue a noisy tickling sound on engine, and a flactuating fuel gauge on a panel,. but when i change oil, the tickling sound on the engine has lessen but the speed of my mc has gone, from the top of 120 now reaching to a 100 is hard to achieved,..

hi bro.

i believe the benefits of loose or noisy clapping valve clearance are below:

-Best fuel mileage.
-better top end power.
-good combustion results.

downside:
-the noise it is irritating.
-bad for the adjusting screw and valve tip since it will wear early deformation on tip.
-slow pick-up on low end or acceleration.

but for my setting as of now i choose the tight clearance.

-resulting on smooth idle no tik tik sound.
-fuel mileage is little bit increase.
-idle was just fine unlike on loose valve clearance idle was on lower setting.
-better acceleration and good result on TOP speed :).

note:

valve clearance may vary on the feeling of tightness or looseness this will depend on your mechanic much better if you are the one will feel the tightness or looseness of the clearance since we have different feel in every object.

hope it will help you because i believe on my self that all old engines needs a tighter clearance.

- thanks bro,, maybe your right bcoz of old mc need special attention on engine parts,.. i think my snipy is in need a major tune up, not a regular change oil only,..
THANKS for the advise,..ride safe bro
