Hi guys, I just get my new bike yesterday evening and knew the speedo in malaysia is terrible. On the same night, I travelled side by side with one of the car (Honda City) on the road at 70kph (my speedo). When I look into that Honda City, its speedometer is around 70kph too. So I guess the speedo has no significant error yet at low speed.

Well, I've hit 150km in 24 hours time, can start to go a lil faster tonite =D

70 kl/h is too fast for the first 150klm's
try to take it easy. need to wear in the piston rings at a slower speed. or you could end up with a bad break in and later have to replace the engine.

Go below 80km for first 1000km and after changing the oil and filter then ram you bike!!!!!!!!!!
Take note of Goff's advice

Thanks for all your feedbacks :)

The Yamaha distri manager told me that the engine can rev high even without break-in. From Yamaha Owner Manual, I found that as long as my throttle is 1/4 and below then should be alrite. It says we must always change the engine speed from time to time, dunno why thou :p

This bike is just too powerful, I only open the throttle a lil (probably 1/5) and it goes up to 70kph already at long straights. Well, I m going on city road most of the time, always below 60kph at 4th gear
Here's my max speed for each gear now:
1st: 10 kph
2nd: 30kph
3rd: 40kph
4th: 50 - 60kph (sometimes 70kph)

Any advices from all the experts here?
Thanks ;)

just try not to have too high of RPM. over rev might bend valve, or you might end up with smoke in the exhaust after a few thousand klm's

ohh.. ic. Thanks for your info :)

Actually I came out with a spreadsheet based on traxass's max speed on each gear before the rev limiter kicks in.

It seems like our bike can do about 9200rpm max. Since car has about 6000rpm and engine break-in should be below 3000rpm, I set my bike to run around 4500rpm for the first 150km. I increase about 500rpm every 150km until 5500rpm (max torque region). I think from 450km - 1000km onwards my max speed for each gear would be:

1st : 25kph (5500rpm)
2nd : 45kph (5500rpm)
3rd : 65kph (5500rpm)
4th : 80kph (5000rpm)

I am not sure if my theory is correct, because from online resources, an engine has the best efficiency (perfect air and fuel mixture) around the max torque region, so i guess i won't accumulate too much carbon or unwanted particles in engine and exhaust during first 3000km. :)
Well, I dont really take the Yamaha Distri manager's word that much too, because he might want me to service the engine after 10,000km to earn my money, LOL

you also have to take into account, that traxxas has had his ike fore awhile
and he spent alot of money for his gadgets. if you have an adjustable limiter, then uses it to it's min. then after about 1,500 go to med. the after say 2,500 the go for max. but i don't think there is an adjustable limiter. you just have to guess. but it's just best to not rev the engine real high. you really want to baby it for the first 1,500klm's. my wife's uncle ownes a bike shope. and i have seen what over reving an engine can do to a piston, and head. just take it easy.

Yea, you got the point. Hm... i got a question, how much rpm u considered high revving? about 70% from the maximum RPM?

well i tried to keep the rpm low when i did my break in. an eg: I know on an R/C gas engine, for it's break in period you let the engine just run at idel for a full gas tank. i know it's not the same, but i just tried to keep the rpm low, close to almost idel rpm, but not too low to stall out.

This morning at about 250km on Odo, I took a look at my engine oil. It is still very clear. I am surprised because my old EX5 using full synthetic won't be that clear after running this distance. imho, the forge piston and diasil r0x0r. Well, i am running at about 1/3 of the max engine RPM most of the time and max throttle is 1/4 only (though yamaha says can go up to 1/2 throttle now). Hopefully it is alrite ;)

for RC engines its depends on da type of engine itself...
if u break in a race engine more likely u gonna do it da hard way ( rev it hard )...
but if u r break in an engine dat was meant for just for fun only so i tink soft break in is more likely ( idle rpm )...
in a new RC race engine da piston n sleve is so damn tite dat lettin it idle when break in will be impossible..coz da engine most likely to stall..its so damn tite dat just to start it gotta use a drill...even after breakin it on high rpm for an hour..u'll still need da drill to start it...very tite very high compression..
for daily bike engine...till today still many pros n cons about break in da engine da hard way...but i choose da hard way..my pals too...my mazda mechs too..so most of da guys i know choose da hard way dan da soft way...revvvv it up baby :D...

For Malaysian who stays in Penang, just wondering if you guys tried Balik Pulau uphill run. I managed to do 75kph in average using 3rd gear half throttle. Less steep slope gives me 85kph while very steep one only can do 65kph. I am not sure if this bike is underpower, or it is really having this much of power only, js wanna check with you guys ;)

wats the stock sprocket size?

justkir: does ur setting feel heavy?

btw sg sparks get an average of 120 - 145 kmph on stock. hardly anything faster

I know at 100 to 120klm an hour, i feel like i'm fling. it's some scary sh*t when your riding that fast then someone steps on the brakes ahead of you. waaaa some times it's a close call.

I've never gone this fast on a motor bike before. but whats more scary, is i have done 100klm on my mountain bike in the states. it was a sweet ass hill, just got up to 64mph. thats just about 100klm per hour. freeaakkking scary! let me tell you.
